Remembrance in the South West 2025

30/11/2025

In 2025, members of the Plymouth and District Branch of the RFA Association took part in many events to mark Remembrance.
The first event was on Saturday the 1st November when Richard Walker carried the Branch Standard at a parade in Ford Park Cemetery. The parade, organised by the Army Cadets, mustered outside the tea room and marched down to the grave of Henry VC. He was a gunner in the Crimea war and received the VC for saving his gun during the Battle of Inkerman. A short service was held at his grave and wreaths laid.  Then the parade marched down to the Memorial to those who died in the Blitz during the 1939-1945 War, at the lower entrance of Ford Park Cemetery. A short service was held and wreaths laid.
Richard did not attend the wreath laying at Burrow Hill due to the weather on Friday the 7th November but Ray Jago paraded the RFA SW Standard at the service and wreath laying at 1100 at RBL Crownhill. In the evening Richard paraded the Branch Standard at the Festival of Remembrance run by the Federation of Plymouth and District Ex-Services Association in the Crown Plaza Hotel which consisted of a concert followed by a Remembrance service conducted by the Rev. Jo Dent.
On Remembrance Sunday several members of the Branch mustered at the citadel and marched to the Naval War Memorial on the Hoe for the 1100 parade. Unfortunately, Tony Pitt was unable to join us as he has not been well. The weather was not good as it rained as we marched over to the Hoe but was dry for most of the service but then bucketed down for the march off.
A small group then went to the MN Monument on the Hoe where a wreath was laid by Bob Burt in the pouring rain.
Wreath was laid in Ashburton by Maurice Mann.
Wreaths were also laid at Falmouth as reported by Geoff Wilson.
“Not as good a turn out as we have had in the past but considering the weather not bad. It rained hard from the time we left the moor at Falmouth until just before we got back down from the war memorial in the park so everyone had a good soaking. Still raining so we took the photo inside after a very much earned coffee break in the council offices. Mounts Bay likely to be here until after Christmas so no great rush to get them away and Cardigan Bay laid up.”
Charlie Rogers after his efforts in the morning attend the service in the afternoon at Callington and laid a wreath.
Finally, Richard Walker paraded the Branch Standard outside St Andrews Church in Plymouth on Tuesday the 11th November at 1100 where 2 minutes silence was observed and wreaths were laid by the Lord Mayor of Plymouth and others.
